Just one hour away, there is shopping at the market of Tepic, with items from the Huichol Indians. For upscale shopping, try Fabrica Francais, the Nordstrom's of Tepic.
Rental cars are available in Tepic (the Capital of Nayarit), which is approximately 30 miles east of Playa Los Cocos. Once in Tepic, the new toll road system allows you to travel quickly to Guadalajara 3 to 4 hours east.
There are many interesting sites along the way such as old volcano ruins and archeological digs.
One hour from Guadalajara is a town called Tequila; guess what they are famous for? Stop to visit the Tequila distilleries and taste and purchase your favorites.
Guadalajara is Mexico’s second largest city. We can arrange for a overnight stay as there is definitely more than you can see in one day. One of our favorite restaurants in Guadalajara is Santo Coyote and the margaritas are the best! You can shop till you drop at Talaquepaque where you can buy whimsical folk art as well as traditional Mexican souvenirs.
For guests who love a garage sale atmosphere, there is Tonola, a suburb of Guadalajara. On Thursdays and Sundays, there is an outside market that is not for the claustrophobic.
There are many interesting inlets and beaches north of San Blas.
This is the native territory of the Huichol Indians and you can tour the island of their heritage called Mexcaltitan. Also of interest is Santiago, the home of the the Huichol Center for Cultural Survival and Traditional Arts.
